Instagram photo by untilitoverflows{Advent to Lent // continued from yesterday} "Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." This is a command that is hard to obey in a world where things are anything but right... in a world where terrorists commit unspeakable evil, where disease steals life, where pornography is rampant and is leaving a wake of destruction, where marriages and families are broken by sin and selfishness, and where we are judged by the shape of our bodies instead of the size of our hearts. _ "Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." It is not a suggestion. It is a command. And it is so important that it bears repeating (see v. 1 & v. 27), not just here but in over a hundred places in the Bible: Do not be afraid. Do not fear. Do not worry. Do not be anxious. Do not let your hearts be troubled. Take heart. _ "Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." How is this even possible? Jesus tells us that *His* peace is the answer. *His* peace is vastly different than the balms and band-aids offered by the world. *His* peace is Himself (Eph. 2: 14)... Not only did He *not* leave us when He left the world (Jn. 14: 18), He *entered* us. In the hearts and bodies of those who believe in Him, Jesus dwells there within, by the Holy Spirit. _ "Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." So you're asking for peace in an impossible situation, looking for peace in insurmountable circumstances? Look no further than yourself. If you have trusted Him with your life, He has filled it up with His peace. His peace exceeds our understanding (Phil. 4: 7) ...because The Creator of the Universe, The King of the World, The Lord God Almighty, The Alpha and The Omega, The Commander of Angel Armies... He made his home is this world... and then inside this heart. --------------------------------------------------------- [NOTE TO SELF] "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age" (Matt. 28: 20). --------------------------------------------------------- {John 14: 15-31 // verse 27 shown here} "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
