- This needs to be said, especially considering that I have a younger audience of female followers who haven't experienced what this poem describes and hopefully never will. I have spoken to girls on here who have been in abusive relationships or have been abused, be it sexual, physical or verbal. That's awful in itself, right? Well, the sad truth is that it doesn't end there. Girls can live with the consequences of events years after what happened. Girls want to fix things. They think they can change people into better people. And before you say that's a generalization or a that's a sexist thing to say, I am speaking in general. I know that a lot of girls don't think this way, but a lot do. Most of the girls I have spoken to have admitted to staying in abusive relationships far longer than they should have because they thought they could fix their abusive partner. Ask yourself, can you honestly say that you haven't made this mistake in the past? You see, the sad truth is is that sometimes they're right. You can change someone for the better. But most of the time you'll be the one who changes. You'll start hating yourself and everyone around you the longer you're around a toxic individual. Some girls who are abused have been brainwashed into thinking that they're the problem, that they 'deserve' what is happening to them. Some will turn to food to comfort and stop exercising or stop eating and take on an extreme and sometimes dangerous diet. Some will turn to alcohol everyday or a razor blade to open their skin to take the pain away. They'll forget about all the things that they cared about and made them who they were and will become a shell of their former self. It doesn't have to be this way. If you're reading this and are going through a time like this or have yet to, please listen to what I say. No one should have to sacrifice their happiness in the hopes of 'changing someone'. Girls should be given diamonds, not bruises. So if you're in a toxic relationship, get out of it. There are people on this who can speak from experience the dangers of hanging on for too long. Sometimes it can take years to recover from an abusive relationship. Continue below.
