- Oh my. How do I find the right words for this one? Mara is almost three weeks old and is just exceeding every expectation I and the doctors had. After surgery, chest tubes, central lines, and more, she’s come out the other end and, to everyone’s amazement, is stronger from it. To MY amazement, I’m stronger too. She’s definitely changed me. And I love her because of it. We get to bring her home this week and our family is so excited and ready to start our NICU-less lives together. I want you all to know that I have read every comment, message, text, and email. I have every intention of responding to each of them. I just need to get settled first. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your prayers, support, and overall words of encouragement. We feel so lucky to have been given strength from you. Thank you thank you thank you. 😘😘😘 #MaraMaraBoBara

- Baby Alert! πŸ‘ΆπŸ»πŸ‘ΆπŸ»πŸ‘ΆπŸ» Say hello to the hand of Mara Luciana Ward! Born in a jiff on 9/13/2017! Girlfriend was 6lb 11oz & 19.25 inches long. FULL head of dark and thick hair, y'all. πŸ’πŸ» I'm so in love with her it just might kill me. There were a few complications and she ended up having major surgery last Friday, but she's doing super and recovering like a champion. In addition to her heart being on her right side and a few other things we already knew before birth, she's dealing with #esophagealatresia & #tracheoesophagealfistula. Basically, her esophagus and stomach never made that connection. The top part just ended into a pocket, and the bottom part grew from the stomach and into the trachea. So anything she swallows has no where to go and she was choking it up. πŸ˜” . . Her surgeon is a baller and, no joke, has Christina-Yang-game in the OR. Mara surprised everyone by being extubated right after her surgery and has just been kicking butt with her recovery since. Not normal! (But then, my kids are superheroes so there's that. πŸ€—) We've got an unknown road in the NICU ahead of us, but have taken it one day at a time this far. And that seems to be working for us. Thank you thank you thank you for the calls, emails, messages, the texts, the polos, and the prayers. We definitely feel so much love and are so grateful that M made it here to us safely!!! One of my friends called her a #warriorbaby and that has totally stuck with me. She's a definite fighter and I can't wait to share more soon! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo . . πŸ’…πŸ» Also, three cheers for nail care. Do they do manicures in hospitals? Because that should probably be a thing. #MaraMaraBoBara #ProperAndParenthood
